Blackjack at Genting Casino Brighton
At 6-8 Preston Street our blackjack tables are one of the main reasons people walk through the door. On paper the idea is simple enough: get closer to 21 than the dealer without going over, and you take the chips. Sit down at a real table though, with proper cards, chips and a dealer talking you through, and it turns into a very different experience from just reading the rules at home.
We open the gaming floor from 2pm every day. Live tables, including blackjack, usually start from 3pm and stay open through until 4am most nights, with play running an extra hour to 5am on Saturdays. That gives a long window for a session, longer than quite a few other venues in the city to be honest.

Over the years we have seen every kind of approach to blackjack, from basic strategy cards to home-made systems. None of them can guarantee a win. Every hand is still driven by chance and our dealers follow fixed house rules regardless of how a session is going. It is worth having that in the back of your mind before you take a seat.
How the game works at our tables
At Genting Casino Brighton we keep blackjack close to the standard format that most UK players expect. You receive two cards face up. The dealer takes one card face up and one card face down. From there your decisions come in: you can hit to draw another card, stand on your total, double down in certain spots, or split if your first two cards make a pair.
The dealer’s upcard is a big part of how most regulars think through a hand. Players usually weigh their own total against that visible card before they act. Once everyone at the table has finished, the dealer turns over the hole card. If that total is under 17, they draw more cards until they reach at least that point. Anyone still in the hand and closer to 21 than the dealer gets paid.
A natural blackjack - an ace with any ten-value card as the first two cards - pays out at a better rate than a standard winning hand, and it is treated separately from other totals. That small detail matters quite a lot over a long night.
From our experience, a simple tip applies pretty much everywhere: if you have not played much live blackjack, standing behind a table and watching a few rounds is often more useful than staring at a strategy chart on your phone. You get a feel for the tempo of the game and how players and dealers move through each decision.
If you want to join a live blackjack table at our venue, the typical flow looks like this:
- Make your way to 6-8 Preston Street and head inside to the gaming floor.
- Look for the blackjack area, or just ask any member of staff to point you towards it.
- Wait for a free seat to open up, or check with the team about spaces.
- Swap your cash for chips, either directly at the table where allowed or at the main cashier.
- When the dealer calls for bets, put your chips into the marked betting area before the round starts.
- Play your hand out based on your two cards and the dealer’s visible card in front of you.
- Once the dealer finishes their hand, chips are either collected or paid out and pushed towards you.
- At the end of your visit, take your remaining chips to the cashier and cash out before you leave the building.
